A few months ago, I had an epiphany. My in-laws were coming down to visit for the day, and my husband and I were, as usual, trying to make the house look perfect for the sake of their visit. We were putting together a centerpiece and putting everything on the "good dishes." As I was doing that, I thought about my own family. We'd eaten on paper plates the night before so that I could spend more time cleaning up for the visit. Why had I neglected my own immediate family and their needs in exchange for relatives? And don't we often do that?

I started thinking about everyday life with my family and how I could make it special. We've decided that family celebrations should be a part of our lives. Instead of spending our decorating and cooking energies on others, we will celebrate with ourselves.

Out of that desire, Family Celebrations was born. The blog is only one part of what I see (and hope you do, too) as a great idea. I'm planning to bring you ideas for making your family life a celebratory one.
